Dr. Layla Mohamed Al- Marzooqi
Director of Health Tourism Council (Dubai Health Authority, Government of Dubai)
Dr. Layla Mohamed Al- Marzooqi is the Director of Health Tourism Council (Dubai Health Authority, Government of Dubai) and specialist cardiologist at Rashid Hospital, Dubai. She is also the first woman and UAE national to be appointed as the President of Global Healthcare Travel Council in the year 2017.
Dr. Al-Marzouqi holds a degree in medicine and surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She spent ten years studying and gaining experience in internal medicine and cardiology in Dublin – after which she returned home and started work at Dubai hospital as a specialist cardiologist (with a particular interest in preventive cardiology).
She later returned to the UK and obtained a Master’s degree in cardiovascular rehabilitation (the first UAE national to do so). Subsequently, she completed a second Master’s degree in healthcare administration and graduated with distinction from Zayed University-UAE. Along the way, she was also awarded a Ph.D. scholarship from the UAE University.
Dr. Layla Al-Marzouqi was a part of the team formed by His Excellency the Director General of Dubai Health Authority and given the task of transferring the Department of Health and Medical Services into Dubai Health Authority. She has also served as Chair of conference and the scientific committee for the First Dubai health regulation conference in the Middle East, Chair of the third Arab conference, Member of the organizing committee for World Cardiology Congress Dubai and Member of the physician assessment committee at the International Association for Medical regulatory authorities (IAMRA). She has also served as the Lecturer in many medical colleges and universities in the UAE, Head of UAE delegations in several international conferences, exhibition and roadshows, etc.
She has won various awards such as -Award by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum for participating in leadership development program and for being a distinctive employee of Dubai Health Authority, Umm Al Emarat Award by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bent Mubarak, Award by His Excellency Khalfan Harib (Ex. Dubai Ruler Court director general) for distinctive work in improving healthcare in the Emirate of Dubai, Award by His Excellency Doctor Hanif Hassan ( Ex minister of health) UAE-for distinction work in developing UAE anti-tobacco law in 2010 and Award by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed for winning Emirates Women Award 2012, to name a few.
